Hawks victorious in home opener
Kit Small converted a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, as SUNY New Paltz rallied to defeat Hartwick, 69-67, in the Hawks’ women’s basketball home opener at the Hawk Center.
The (3-1 overall) Hawks, who trailed 51-46 heading into the final quarter, tied the score, 67-67, on a 3-point field goal from Matron Dietz with 1:05 remaining.
Lindsay Bettke led New Paltz with 20 points, while Dietz added 14. Small, meanwhile, recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Courtney Irbe added six assists, five blocks and three steals in the win. Emily Stone led (2-3) Hartwick with 24 points.
New Paltz travels to face New York University on Tuesday.
