Hawks vic­to­ri­ous in home opener

Kit Small con­verted a pair of free throws with seven sec­onds re­main­ing in the fourth quar­ter, as SUNY New Paltz ral­lied to de­feat Hartwick, 69-67, in the Hawks’ women’s bas­ket­ball home opener at the Hawk Cen­ter.

The (3-1 over­all) Hawks, who trailed 51-46 head­ing into the fi­nal quar­ter, tied the score, 67-67, on a 3-point field goal from Ma­tron Di­etz with 1:05 re­main­ing.

Lind­say Bet­tke led New Paltz with 20 points, while Di­etz added 14. Small, mean­while, recorded a dou­ble-dou­ble with 11 points and 10 re­bounds. Court­ney Irbe added six as­sists, five blocks and three steals in the win. Emily Stone led (2-3) Hartwick with 24 points.

New Paltz trav­els to face New York Univer­sity on Tues­day.
