19th-cen­tury paint­ing is re­stored, on dis­play

His­toric Huguenot Street is has an­nounced the restora­tion of a 19th-cen­tury oil-on­can­vas por­trait of Deb­o­rah Bloomer DuBois, made pos­si­ble with funds from the state Coun­cil on the Arts and the Greater Hud­son Her­itage Net­work Con­ser­va­tion Treat­ment Pro­gram.

The re­stored paint­ing may be viewed at the DuBois Fort Vis­i­tor Cen­ter, 81 Huguenot St., New Paltz, dur­ing reg­u­lar week­end hours through Dec. 18.

The paint­ing was do­nated to the group’s per­ma­nent col­lec­tion in 2015 by Natha­nial DuBois Clark.

When the paint­ing was re­ceived, the name of the sub­ject was un­known. How­ever, based on the paint­ing’s prove­nance and through ge­nealog­i­cal re­search, the sub­ject was iden­ti­fied as Deb­o­rah Bloomer DuBois, wife of Natha­nial DuBois, a third great-grand­son of Louis DuBois, one of New Paltz’s orig­i­nal paten­tees.
