State trooper struck by al­legedly im­paired driver

A trooper was struck by an im­paired driver while in­ves­ti­gat­ing an ac­ci­dent on the Sprain Brook Park­way in Westchester County, state police said Fri­day.

The trooper, whose name was not pro­vided, suf­fered mi­nor in­juries in the Thanks­giv­ing Day in­ci­dent and was treated at Westchester Med­i­cal Cen­ter and re­leased, police said.

Police said the trooper, as­signed to the Hawthorne bar­racks, was struck about 4:40 p.m. Thurs­day by Xhe­valin Lala, no age or ad­dress pro­vided, and that Lala had a blood-al­co­hol con­tent of 0.6 per­cent.

Lala was charged with driv­ing while abil­ity im­paired and nu­mer­ous traf­fic in­frac­tions, police said.

Lala’s al­leged blood­al­co­hol con­tent was be­low the state’s 0.08 per­cent thresh­old for be­ing charged with the more se­ri­ous of­fense of driv­ing while in­tox­i­cated.
