State trooper struck by allegedly impaired driver
A trooper was struck by an impaired driver while investigating an accident on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Westchester County, state police said Friday.
The trooper, whose name was not provided, suffered minor injuries in the Thanksgiving Day incident and was treated at Westchester Medical Center and released, police said.
Police said the trooper, assigned to the Hawthorne barracks, was struck about 4:40 p.m. Thursday by Xhevalin Lala, no age or address provided, and that Lala had a blood-alcohol content of 0.6 percent.
Lala was charged with driving while ability impaired and numerous traffic infractions, police said.
Lala’s alleged bloodalcohol content was below the state’s 0.08 percent threshold for being charged with the more serious offense of driving while intoxicated.
