William C. Stokes Sr., 77, of the town of Kingston
William C. Stokes Sr., 77, of Hill Road, Kingston, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at the Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Jan. 20, 1939, in Kingston, he was a son of the late Paul and Ruth (Brazee) Stokes.
Mr. Stokes served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1959 and was employed by the Town of Kingston Highway Department. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. An avid fast pitch softball player, he was the pitcher for the Smith Brothers team in Ellenville. He was inducted into the New York State Softball Hall of Fame, the Dutchess County Softball Hall of Fame and played nationally ranked games against the King and his court softball team. Yard work was one of William’s favorite things to do.
Mr. Stokes is survived his wife of 54 years, Beverly Stokes, and his son, William C. Stokes, Jr. and his fiancée Melissa Constable. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
His granddaughter, Kaitlyn Stokes, and brothers and sisters, Alberta Brazee, Paul, Robert, James, Harry and Edwin Stokes, Myrtle Brauer, Ruth Mcllhenny and Donald Stokes, all died previously.
