Wil­liam C. Stokes Sr., 77, of the town of Kingston

Wil­liam C. Stokes Sr., 77, of Hill Road, Kingston, died Wed­nes­day, Nov. 23, 2016, at the Golden Hill Nurs­ing and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­ter. Born Jan. 20, 1939, in Kingston, he was a son of the late Paul and Ruth (Brazee) Stokes.

Mr. Stokes served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1959 and was em­ployed by the Town of Kingston High­way Depart­ment. In his early years, he en­joyed hunt­ing and fish­ing. An avid fast pitch soft­ball player, he was the pitcher for the Smith Broth­ers team in El­lenville. He was in­ducted into the New York State Soft­ball Hall of Fame, the Dutchess County Soft­ball Hall of Fame and played na­tion­ally ranked games against the King and his court soft­ball team. Yard work was one of Wil­liam’s fa­vorite things to do.

Mr. Stokes is sur­vived his wife of 54 years, Bev­erly Stokes, and his son, Wil­liam C. Stokes, Jr. and his fi­ancée Melissa Con­sta­ble. Many nieces and neph­ews also sur­vive.

His grand­daugh­ter, Kait­lyn Stokes, and broth­ers and sis­ters, Al­berta Brazee, Paul, Robert, James, Harry and Ed­win Stokes, Myr­tle Brauer, Ruth Mcll­henny and Don­ald Stokes, all died pre­vi­ously.

Fu­neral and cre­ma­tion ar­range­ments are un­der the guid­ance of Joseph V. Leahy Fu­neral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). Friends will be re­ceived at the fu­neral home on Sun­day from 2 to 5 p.m.
