Celtic cap­tures Scot­tish League cham­pi­onship

Celtic won the 100th ma­jor tro­phy in the Glas­gow club’s 129-year his­tory by beat­ing Aberdeen 3-0 in the Scot­tish League Cup fi­nal on Sun­day. It gave Bren­dan Rodgers his first tro­phy in man­age­ment.

GLAS­GOW, SCOTLAND (AP) >> Celtic won the 100th ma­jor tro­phy in the Glas­gow club’s 129year his­tory by beat­ing Aberdeen 3-0 in the Scot­tish League Cup fi­nal on Sun­day.

It gave Bren­dan Rodgers his first tro­phy in man­age­ment dur­ing his first sea­son in charge of Celtic af­ter pre­vi­ously miss­ing out on sil­ver­ware, most no­tably with Liver­pool.

Mid­field­ers Tom Rogic and James For­rest scored in the first half at Ham­p­den Park, Scotland’s na­tional sta­dium. Striker Moussa Dembele con­verted from the penalty spot in the 64th minute af­ter For­rest was fouled by An­thony O’Con­nor.

Celtic now switches its fo­cus back to the quest for a do­mes­tic tre­ble. The team has an eight-point lead in the Scot­tish Premier­ship in its bid for a sixth suc­ces­sive ti­tle and is yet to open its Scot­tish Cup cam­paign.
