WHAT: Pro­gram, “In­ter­net Aware­ness: Tools for Keep­ing Youth Safe in Cy­berspace” WHEN: Dec. 1 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. WHERE: Quimby The­ater on the cam­pus of SUNY Ul­ster, 491 Cot­tekill Road, Stone Ridge DE­TAILS: This pre­sen­ta­tion will equip at­ten­dees with an un­der­stand­ing of the dan­gers of so­cial net­work­ing and gam­ing sites, smart phone/tablet apps, dis­turb­ing trends such as sex­ting, web cam­era ex­ploita­tion, cy­ber­bul­ly­ing and tac­tics on­line preda­tors use to lure young­sters into dan­ger­ous and po­ten­tially life-threat­en­ing sit­u­a­tions. Tools for en­gag­ing young­sters in con­ver­sa­tions about cy­ber­safety and main­tain­ing con­sis­tent fol­low up will be ex­plored. The pro­gram, which is free and open to the public, will be pre­sented by Thomas Grimes, a re­tired New York Po­lice De­part­ment de­tec­tive.
