Vincent J. Hack­ett, 83, of Saugerties

Vincent J. Hack­ett a na­tive and life long res­i­dent of Saugerties passed away peace­fully at Ten Broeck Com­mons in Lake Ka­trine, N.Y., on Nov. 26, 2016.

Vince was born on Sept. 27, 1933 in Saugerties, N.Y. He was the son of the late Made­line Brown and James Leonard Hack­ett. He grad­u­ated from Saugerties High School in 1951, and was pre­vi­ously em­ployed by IBM. Vince de­fined his life by the love of fam­ily and com­mu­nity ser­vice. Vince left Saugerties to serve his coun­try dur­ing the Korean Con­flict. It was dur­ing this time, sta­tioned in Quan­tico, Va., where he met the love of his life Je­niece Lynette Leck­watch at a USO event. Vince was hon­or­ably dis­charged from the U.S. Marine Corp and moved to Pough­keep­sie, N.Y., where he worked for IBM. He sub­se­quently moved back to his home­town of Saugerties. Vince was a Quar­ter Cen­tury Club mem­ber and made many last­ing friend­ships dur­ing his ca­reer at IBM. He was very ac­tive in the com­mu­nity. To his chil­dren and their friends, he was most re­mem­bered for his in­volve­ment in sports. He was the head of Saint Mary’s CYO for many years. He coached base­ball from Grasshop­pers through Babe Ruth, Moose League tour­na­ments and Biddy League. He was also ac­tive in the Saugerties High School Booster Club, and served on the Saugerties Re­cre­ation Board for many years. In his youth he was a reg­u­lar on lo­cal base­ball teams, and a mem­ber of the SHS bas­ket­ball and foot­ball teams in the late 40’s. Vince even spent time as a gym coach at Saint Mary’s El­e­men­tary School. Vince was hon­ored by the in­duc­tion into the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 for his long time ser­vice to the Saugerties sports com­mu­nity. He was also a Re­pub­li­can com­mit­tee­man and re­mained ac­tive in lo­cal pol­i­tics for many years. He was a mem­ber of the lo­cal Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 72. His fo­cus was al­ways to im­prove the com­mu­nity for cur­rent and fu­ture gen­er­a­tions. Vince en­joyed spend­ing time with his fam­ily as well as fish­ing, boat­ing and hunt­ing.

Sur­vivors in­clude two daugh­ters, Melissa Fer­rara (Michael Je­ni­lyn (Jared) Gary Gre­gory) all of Saugerties and Marie Brandt (Brett) of Saugerties (Craig) of Las Ve­gas, Nev.; two sons, Arnold “Arnie” (Patti) Hack­ett (Justin, Chris­tine) of Cary, N.C. and James “Lenny” (Lisa) Hack­ett (Tim and Kevin) of Raleigh, N.C., (Colleen (Josh) of New Bern, N.C.) and a daugh­ter-in-law, Alice Hack­ett (Alissa) of the Town of Ul­ster. He is also sur­vived by six great-grand­chil­dren; his sis­ter, Made­line Cur­tiss of Pough­keep­sie; and many nieces and neph­ews.

He was pre­de­ceased by his wife, Je­niece; a son, Clark J.; grand­son, Al­ton James Hack­ett; as well as his sis­ter, He­len Bach; and brother, James “Bud” Hack­ett.

His Fu­neral Pro­ces­sion will form 9:15 a.m. on Friday at the Sea­monWilsey Fu­neral Home Inc., cor­ner of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Thence to St. Mary of the Snow Church where a 10 a.m. a Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be of­fered. Burial with Mil­i­tary Hon­ors by Post 72, will fol­low in the St. Mary of the Snow Ceme­tery. Friends may call Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
