Patricia Lee Carl, 84, of Sanford, Maine
Patricia Lee Carl, 84, passed away on Nov. 24, 2016.
Born in Sanford, Maine, Aug. 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Roland M. Jackson and Eleanor Walker Jackson.
On Feb. 25, 1951 she married Arthur Wallace Carl, who survives at home. They were blessed with 65 years of loving marriage.
Patricia was in the 1950 graduating class at Sanford High School. She and Arthur resided in Sanford until 1956 when they moved to Rhinebeck, N.Y.
An avid quilter, she started her own quilt shop in her home, The Country Shop. She developed close friendships with many of those who shared her creativity and love of the craft. She enjoyed 10 years of teaching at Rhinebeck Central School, working closely with students in the Resource Room and maintained relationships with many of them throughout her life.
She expressed her compassion for others by volunteering for the Dutchess County Literacy Program, the Friendly Club, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She opened her home to AFS students and Astor Home children.
She loved reading and enjoyed passing this love on to her children and grandchildren. She was proud to always finish the New York Times crossword puzzle.
In addition to her husband, Patricia is survived by her children, Sheryl (John Donohue) Lloyd of Red Hook, Michael (Paula) Carl of Germantown, Cathy (David Coon) Carl of Rhinebeck, and Karin (Joe) Hafner of Cottekill. Her beloved grandchildren are Colin (Lisa) Lloyd, Stewart Fenderson, Katie (Steven) Cronk, Jessie Bouton, Mike Carl, Adam Eggleston, Brianna Hafner, and Joseph Hafner III. She also was very proud of her four great-grandchildren, Quinton and Max Lloyd, Sophie Fenderson, and Leo Cronk. She is survived by her brother Roland Jackson and his wife Marie (Skip and Toots) of Sanford, Maine, as well as a large extended family and cherished friends.
She was predeceased by her brother Richard Jackson.
The family would like to express thanks to Ellen Feller for her patient and competent caregiving. We also want to thank the nurses and staff of the Baptist Home at Brookmeade.
