WHAT: Screen­ing of “A Christ­mas Story” WHEN: Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. WHERE: Ul­ster Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter, 601 Broad­way, Kingston DE­TAILS: The cen­ter’s series of clas­sic films con­tin­ues with a show­ing of the 1983 hol­i­day clas­sic “A Christ­mas Story.” The film based is on the short sto­ries and semi-fic­tional anec­dotes of au­thor and racon­teur Jean Shep­herd, based on his book “In God We Trust: All Oth­ers Pay Cash,” with some el­e­ments de­rived from Wanda Hickey’s “Night of Golden Mem­o­ries.” It is set in a fic­tional In­di­ana town in the 1940s and re­volves around a boy’s quest to get an air ri­fle as a Christ­mas present — de­spite warnings about its po­ten­tial dan­ger. All seats are $6. Ad­mis­sion is free to peo­ple who bring a new un­wrapped toy that will be do­nated to Peo­ple’s Place.
