Evo­lu­tion ge­og­ra­pher will speak in Arkville

“A View from the World Turned Down­side Up” will be the topic of a talk by evo­lu­tion ge­og­ra­pher James MacAl­lis­ter at 7 p.m. Tues­day, Dec. 6, at the Catskill Center, 43355 state Route 28.

The pro­gram is free, but there is a $5 sug­gested do­na­tion.

MacAl­lis­ter, an award­win­ning script writer and di­rec­tor of pro­grams in medicine and sci­ence, worked with bi­ol­o­gist Lynn Mar­gulis for 10 years cre­at­ing teach­ing ma­te­ri­als for her classes in “Big Earth His­tory” and earth sys­tems sci­ence.

As one of Mar­gulis’ teach­ing as­sis­tants, he earned his mas­ter’s de­gree in sci­ence and be­came a fel­low of the Lin­nean So­ci­ety and a vol­un­teer ar­chiv­ist for the Lynn Mar­gulis Dig­i­tal Ar­chive, which pro­duces the quar­terly En­vi­ron­men­tal Evo­lu­tion news­let­ter (www.en­vevo.org) and is col­lab­o­rat­ing with Bruce Scofield to present an on­line ver­sion of Mar­gulis’s en­vi­ron­men­tal evo­lu­tion course.
