Fresh­man Kelsea Demelis scored 18 points and sopho­more Katie McCabe tal­lied 10 to lead Roo­sevelt’s young girls bas­ket­ball team to a solid 58-37 sea­son-open­ing vic­tory over Wash­ing­tonville on Wed­nes­day night.

“We played con­sis­tently good de­fense all the way,” said Roo­sevelt coach Cliff Sauer, who saw his team outscore the Wizards 42-22 for the fi­nal three quar­ters.

The Pres­i­dents got good per­for­mances all around from Jae­len Daubon (nine points), Kam­ryn Ham­mond (nine points), Katey DeWitt (11 re­bounds), Kris­ten Phillips (10 re­bounds, seven steals), Wil­iana Lundy (seven re­bounds, six steals) and Deliah Smith (six points, eight as­sists).

Roo­sevelt is back in ac­tion Tues­day with a non­league game at Mill­brook.
