Daily Freeman (Kingston, NY) - - OBITUARIES -

Ernest J. “Ernie” Steinhofer, 58, previously of New Paltz, N,Y,, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. Born on Oct. 23, 1958 in Jackson Heights, N.Y., he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Marjorie A. Voelker Steinhofer.

To say he lived his life around the game of golf was an understatement. He loved the smell of fresh cut grass. No matter what the weather was, he would be out on the golf course, even if that meant the middle of January.

Ernie enjoyed fishing off of the Long Island Sound with family and friends on Captain Pete’s fishing boat. He loved the beach, the sun, and hunting as well. Those that knew him knew he was quick witted and was a very loyal friend. He was known as a jokester and prankster and for giving people nicknames. He was generous to those he loved and an all-around handyman and was able to fix most things.

Ernie was well known and loved by the patrons at the Bowery Dugout in Kingston, N.Y., where he waited tables for many years where he felt like everyone was family especially owner Bruce Paley.

Ernie was continuing his work at Synergy Turf Supply Inc., his discernment and ability to provide for his clients and the needs of their golf courses was second to none.

Surviving are a daughter, Elissa A. Steinhofer of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son, Timothy M. Steinhofer of New Paltz, N.Y.; mother of his children, Mary L.
