Patricia A. Harder, 65, of Wilmington, Del.
Patricia A. Harder, 65, of Wilmington, Del., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017. A nurse, former DuPont researcher and 35year Wilmington resident, she was in home hospice care after battling cancer the past year.
Pat was born in Kingston, N.Y., the home of her ancestors since the 1650’s, and grew up in Cedar Grove, N.J. She graduated from Lake Forest College and began her first career in biological research at the University of Illinois. She then worked in research for 20 years at the DuPont Experimental Station.
Pat studied nursing at the University of Delaware and received her 2nd degree in 2004, and had successful surgery for cancer the following year. She worked at Christiana and St. Francis Hospitals for the past 12 years, her last shift just three months ago.
An avid gardener and genealogist, Pat spent her free weekends and vacations at her home on the mountain near Hurley, N.Y., usually with one of her pet cats and a pile of books. She took pleasure in sharing family history and spending time with her many relatives in Ulster County and beyond.
Surviving are her two brothers, John E. Harder (Janine) and James A. Harder; two nieces, Jennifer and Catherine; two nephews, Michael and Robertl; and many aunts, uncles and cousins who will always know her as Patty.
She was predeceased by her father, John R. Harder, known as Jack; her mother, Shirley; and her nephew, J.T. Harder.
A graveside service will be held Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at the Hurley Cemetery in Hurley, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the National Wildlife Federation (www.nwf.org) and local animal welfare organizations.
