Trash agency boss gets 6-year deal, 3% raise
The Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency board has given a six-year contract extension to agency Executive Director Tim Rose with a salary of $109,160 per year, a raise of about 3 percent from his current pay.
Rose joined the agency in February 2010 as operations director and became a stabilizing administrative force after Executive Director Michael Bemis was fired that October amid accusations of mismanagement and harassment of employees.
Rose’s salary for the past two years has been $105,980.
Rose lauded agency board members for supporting initiatives that have originated with employees, including a composting program that has become profitable and improvements to the agency’s material recovery facility.
Rose holds a master’s in public administration from Marist College and a bachelor’s in environmental engineering from Penn State University.
He previously worked for the Ulster County Department of Health, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
Rose said he has worked closely with the state Department of Environmental Conservation when making decisions about such things as using the former town of Ulster landfill site for a solar farm and taking addition septic sludge from the city of Kingston.
“I’ve worked in two different states for various levels of government,” he said. “So I understand what it’s like to work on the regulatory side, so I understand their perspective when the DEC comes in. I understand what they want and how important it is. I want things to be done right, and I want this place to shine, and I want the public to see this [facility] for what it is, which is an asset to the county.”
