Hyde Park man, 42, dies after stabbing
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. » A 42-year-old Hyde Park man was fatally stabbed during an altercation with a group of teens in Poughkeepsie, city police said Friday.
Nakia Burton was stabbed once in the chest and died Thursday evening at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, police said.
No arrest was announced as of 5 p.m. Friday.
Police said the stabbing happened on Smith Street in the area of Harrison Street. They said Burton was a passenger in a vehicle when a group of males between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age crossed the street in front of the vehicle. Word then were exchanged between Burton and the group, to police said.
As Burton began to get out of the car, a subject described as a black male between 15 and 18 years old, of medium build and wearing a white T-shirt ran up to him and stabbed him in the chest, police said. People in the group then ran off, they said.
Burton fell back into the car and was driven to the emergency room at Vassar Brothers, where he later died, police said.
Police said the hospital called Dutchess County 911 about the stabbing at 5:59 p.m.
