Kathleen B. Hapeman, 95, of Red Hook
RED HOOK » Kathleen “Kay” B. Hapeman, 95, a lifelong resident of Red Hook, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, N.Y.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1922, in Danbury, Conn., to the late Patrick and Ida (Gantert) Behan.
Kay married Lloyd W. Hapeman on Aug. 28, 1948, in St. Joseph’s Church in Danbury, Conn.
Lloyd predeceased Kay on Feb. 26, 2003.
She attended Syracuse University for both her graduate and undergraduate education. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in 1943 and her Master of Arts in 1947.
Kay was an English teacher and librarian in the Red Hook Central School District for nine years and continued her education career as a substitute teacher in the school district while raising her children.
Kay was a member of the Historical Club of Red Hook, the Red Hook Garden Club and various bridge clubs.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Nancy Hapeman of Washington, D.C.; daughter-in-law, Anne (Charlie) Blum of Tivoli, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Cecelia Hapeman, Heather Lazarus, and Patrick Lazarus.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert L. Hapeman.
Kay was fulfilled by her family, their achievements, her career and her love of reading and culture.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at St. Christopher’s Church on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Sylvia’s Cemetery in Tivoli.
Memorial donations may be made in Kay’s memory to the Red Hook Alumni Association, the Red Hook Library, or St. Christopher’s Church.
