RED HOOK » Kath­leen “Kay” B. Hape­man, 95, a life­long res­i­dent of Red Hook, passed away on Thurs­day, Sept. 14, 2017, at the Bap­tist Home in Rhinebeck, N.Y.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1922, in Dan­bury, Conn., to the late Pa­trick and Ida (Gan­tert) Be­han.

Kay mar­ried Lloyd W. Hape­man on Aug. 28, 1948, in St. Joseph’s Church in Dan­bury, Conn.

Lloyd pre­de­ceased Kay on Feb. 26, 2003.

She at­tended Syra­cuse Univer­sity for both her grad­u­ate and un­der­grad­u­ate ed­u­ca­tion. She grad­u­ated with her Bach­e­lor of Arts in 1943 and her Mas­ter of Arts in 1947.

Kay was an English teacher and li­brar­ian in the Red Hook Cen­tral School District for nine years and con­tin­ued her ed­u­ca­tion ca­reer as a sub­sti­tute teacher in the school district while rais­ing her chil­dren.

Kay was a mem­ber of the His­tor­i­cal Club of Red Hook, the Red Hook Gar­den Club and var­i­ous bridge clubs.

Kay is sur­vived by her daugh­ter, Nancy Hape­man of Washington, D.C.; daugh­ter-in-law, Anne (Char­lie) Blum of Tivoli, N.Y.; and three grand­chil­dren, Ce­celia Hape­man, Heather Lazarus, and Pa­trick Lazarus.

In ad­di­tion to her hus­band, she was pre­de­ceased by her son, Robert L. Hape­man.

Kay was ful­filled by her fam­ily, their achieve­ments, her ca­reer and her love of read­ing and cul­ture.

Friends may call at the Bur­nett & White Funeral Homes on Mon­day, Sept. 18, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral ser­vices will be held at St. Christo­pher’s Church on Tues­day, Sept. 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Sylvia’s Ceme­tery in Tivoli.

Me­mo­rial do­na­tions may be made in Kay’s mem­ory to the Red Hook Alumni As­so­ci­a­tion, the Red Hook Li­brary, or St. Christo­pher’s Church.
