On­te­ora, Marl­boro earn shutout vic­to­ries

To­mas Pesko West’s goal off an as­sist from Cooper An­der­son in the 20th minute made the dif­fer­ence as On­te­ora High beat El­lenville 1-0 in a Mid-Hud­son Ath­letic League boys soc­cer match on Fri­day.

Devils head coach Maxwell Mead said af­ter con­ced­ing that goal his squad came to life, but couldn’t cap­i­tal­ize on an 8-3 edge in shots in the se­cond half that in­cluded an op­por­tu­nity to score the equal­izer in the 78th minute go wide.

“The first half we saw a lot of the ball, but set­tled for shots from dis­tance,” Mead said. “We made some changes in the se­cond half and got into some good ar­eas but we couldn’t find the fi­nal touch.

“On­te­ora de­fended as a unit, and were re­ally mo­ti­vated to win this game.”

El­lenville fin­ished the match with a 16-7 edge on shots. Cole White­head had seven saves to pre­serve the shutout for (3-3, 1-2) On­te­ora, while Daniel Ma­hany reg­is­tered two saves for (3-3, 1-2) El­lenville. Marl­boro 2, Ron­d­out 0

At Marl­boro, Wal­ter Espinoza scored both goals to lead the (3-4 over­all, 2-3 MHAL) Dukes.

Matt Ear­ley and Klaus Su­lol­lar had as­sists, while Jawad Haidaoui made five saves to pre­serve the shutout.

Erik Bog­art, mean­while, stopped 10 shots in the loss for the Gan­ders.
