Cairo man faces felony charges in heroin probe

GER­MAN­TOWN, N.Y. » A Cairo man was ar­rested ear­lier this month af­ter po­lice al­legedly found him in pos­ses­sion of roughly $3,000 worth of heroin.

Joseph Clark, 25, of 25 Van Buren Drive, Cairo, was ar­rested on Sept. 9 fol­low­ing a traf­fic stop on state Route 9G by in­ves­ti­ga­tors with the Columbia County Sher­iff’s Of­fice’s Drug Ed­u­ca­tion and En­force­ment Unit.

Clark’s ar­rest was the cul­mi­na­tion of a six-week in­ves­ti­ga­tion into heroin dis­tri­bu­tion in south­ern Columbia County.

Act­ing on search war­rants that had been is­sued ear­lier that week, au­thor­i­ties searched Clark’s ve­hi­cle and al­legedly found 27 grams of raw heroin, enough to make up about 700 in­di­vid­ual doses, with an ap­prox­i­mate street value of $3,000.

Clark was charged with crim­i­nal pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled sub­stance and pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled sub­stance with in­tent to sell, both felonies.

He was ar­raigned in Ger­man­town Town Court and sent to Columbia County Jail pend­ing fur­ther court pro­ceed­ings.
