Clearwater to honor ex-regional EPA chief
BEACON, N.Y. » Hudson River Sloop Clearwater will honor former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith Enck at the organization’s third annual Spirit of the Hudson gala.
Enck will be given Clearwater’s “Spirit of the Hudson Award” for her longtime service to the environment. She was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009 and served for seven years as administrator of EPA Region 2, which includes New York state, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
As a college student, the first issue Enck worked on was New York’s “bottle bill.” She also was instrumental in managing the cleanup of PCBs in the Hudson River and was president of the Clearwater Board of Directors and served on the board from 1987 to 1990.
The gala will be Feb. 11 at The Garrison, in Garrison. Tickets and sponsorship packages for the gala are on sale at www.clearwater.org.
