Head-on crash leaves three hurt
ESOPUS, N.Y. » Three people were hospitalized and U.S. Route 9W was closed for approximately one hour after a head-on crash between a car and an SUV near the Esopus Fire House, according to Esopus Fire Chief William Freer.
Firefighters were dispatched to 1142 U.S. Route 9W at 12:14 p.m. Saturday for a two-car crash with one vehicle on its side and another off the road with the driver trapped.
Freer said firefighters found a Ford Explorer SUV had collided with a Nissan Altima, causing the Explorer to roll over on its side and the Nissan to go off the road. Freer said the driver and a passenger in the Nissan, whom he did not identify, were removed using the Jaws of Life extraction power tool and taken by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
The driver of the Explorer, also not identified, was taken by ambulance to Health-Alliance Hospital’s Broadway Campus in Kingston.
