KYSERIKE, N.Y. >> Port Jervis spoiled Rondout Valley High’s Homecoming football game Saturday, upsetting the Ganders 130.

“We gave them a short field on a punt for the first score,” Rondout coach Chris Frenza said.

The Ganders could never mount a comeback as Port Jervis’ defense stifled them.

“We couldn’t get any offense going all day. They shut down our run game,” Frenza said. “Port came to play. A lot of respect to coach (Matt) Polanis and his staff.”

Port Jervis, which had scored just three touchdowns in the past four weeks, came into the game 0-6 overall and 0-1 in Section 9, Class B, Division I. If the Raiders win next Friday in their home

game with Highland, they clinch a playoff berth.

The lost snapped a threegame win streak for (1-1, 4-3) Rondout.

He scored on a 1-yard run just before halftime, then connected on a 54-yard TD to Dom Pasquini to start the second half to tie.

Tommy Stephens’ 23yard field hook put (4-0, 6-1) Goshen ahead in the third quarter. Giordano’s toss to Rob Siracuse as he was being tackled by two defenders turned into a 48-yard TD to begin the fourth. Giordano later sealed the victory with a 2-yard keeper.

New Paltz slipped to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in division and is now looking at a likely 6th seed in the Class A tournament.
