Rondout blanked in Homecoming matchup
New Paltz, Pine Plains lose; Red Hook tops Onteora
KYSERIKE, N.Y. >> Port Jervis spoiled Rondout Valley High’s Homecoming football game Saturday, upsetting the Ganders 130.
“We gave them a short field on a punt for the first score,” Rondout coach Chris Frenza said.
The Ganders could never mount a comeback as Port Jervis’ defense stifled them.
“We couldn’t get any offense going all day. They shut down our run game,” Frenza said. “Port came to play. A lot of respect to coach (Matt) Polanis and his staff.”
Port Jervis, which had scored just three touchdowns in the past four weeks, came into the game 0-6 overall and 0-1 in Section 9, Class B, Division I. If the Raiders win next Friday in their home
game with Highland, they clinch a playoff berth.
The lost snapped a threegame win streak for (1-1, 4-3) Rondout.
Goshen 29, New Paltz 14
At Middletown, Goshen scored 29 unanswered points on New Paltz to clinch its first Class A, Division I title in 20 years.
Mike Pisciotta had touchdown runs of 9 and 64 yards to put New Paltz up 14-0 with 3:02 left in the first half.
Matt Giordano, however, threw for two TDs and ran for two more to lead the Gladiators.
He scored on a 1-yard run just before halftime, then connected on a 54-yard TD to Dom Pasquini to start the second half to tie.
Tommy Stephens’ 23yard field hook put (4-0, 6-1) Goshen ahead in the third quarter. Giordano’s toss to Rob Siracuse as he was being tackled by two defenders turned into a 48-yard TD to begin the fourth. Giordano later sealed the victory with a 2-yard keeper.
New Paltz slipped to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in division and is now looking at a likely 6th seed in the Class A tournament.
Tri-Valley 22, Pine Plains 12
At Grahamsville, TriValley knocked off previously unbeaten Pine Plains/ Rhinebeck in 8-man football. Both teams are now 5-1.
Andrew Holsopple scored on a 3-yard run and tossed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Even Proper to lead the Bombers.
Proper had 15 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, Luke Imperato made seven tackles and Devon Hurst had five for Pine Plains.
Kyle Stracher led the Bomber runners with 81 yards on 10 carries.
Red Hook 48, Onteora 12
At Boiceville, Dylan Bayliss threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead Red Hook over Onteora. The Raiders had amassed a 35-0 advantage by halftime.
Hayden Campolong rushed for 146 yards and one TD. He and Tony Abbatiello both caught TDs from Bayliss. Kyle Wahlquist also rushed for touchdowns for (3-4) Red Hook.
Onteora fell to 0-7 on the year.
