Saugerties edges Spackenkill
A pair of first-half goals were all New Paltz High needed to beat Spackenkill 2-1 Friday in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls soccer match.
Nyan Cunniff deposited a feed from Anna McDuffie in the net in the 7th minute to give New Paltz a 1-0 lead and Cuniff stuck the ball between the posts off an Alyssa Hiesel assist in the 35th minute to give the (9-4, 8-3) Huguenots a 2-0 cushion that proved to be enough.
Giulia Mazarelli scored the Spartans only goal off a feed from Kaitlyn Kilpert in the 45th minute.
Vivi Kay finished the evening with 10 saves while Madison McCall had seven for (4-8-1) Spackenkill.
The Spartans outshot the Huguenots 11-9, but New Paltz held a 7-1 advantage in corners.
Highland 2, Rondout 0
At Highland, Brooke Harris scored a goal and had an assist and Morgan Calimano added a goal as the Huskies blanked the Ganders.
Brenna Berean added an assist to (6-6, 4-5) Highland’s effort.
Angelica Silva and Lea Schlosser combined for six saves for the Huskies while Makayla Ryan registered eight stops for Rondout.
Rhinebeck 3, Onteora 2
At Rhinebeck, senior Caroline Voorhis hit one directly off a corner kick that curled into the net and broke a 2-2 tie to give a Hawks squad who’ll lose eight senior players the upper hand on senior day.
With Rhinebeck trailing 1-0 Voorhis evened the tally at 1-1 from 20 yards out and Esther Murray gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead, only for Onteora to find the net with equalizer.
Saugerties 5, Marlboro 1
At Saugerties, the Sawyers put up five goals in the first half as they beat the Dukes.
Molly Daggett scored off a Savannah ScarpaMeade assist, Julian Quinlan connected of a Mikaylin Williams feed, Ashlynn DeRonda found the net off a Makenzie Below assist, Ilana Numssen deposited one in the net unassisted and Mercy Danner connected off Jillian Murphy to guide Saugerties.
The Sawyers (3-10) were leading 2-0 in the first before Megan O’Brien scored (0-12) Marlboro’s lone goal of the match to make it 2-1, but Saugerties responded with three unanswered goals in the half to put it out of reach.
