Victim of Monday shooting has died

PINE PLAINS, N.Y. >> Voters gave Republican Ibis Guzman a 514-455 win over appointed Democrat Justice Peter Salerno to serve the final year of a four-year term as town court judge.

Guzman, 39, is an assistant vice president with the Bank of Millbrook who has lived in the town since 1994. He had run unsuccessfully for town justice in 2008 as a write-in candidate. He is a registered Democrat but has filed to change to a nonenrolled designation.

Guzman graduated from Stissing Mountain Junior-Senior High School in 1998, earned an associate’s degree from Dutchess County Community College in Poughkeepsie in 2002 and received a bachelor’s degree in history from Binghamton University in 2002.

Salerno, 72, was appointed to the position in January after Judge Christi Acker was elected to the state Supreme Court last year.
