Down­ing­town East golfers set record in vic­tory

The Down­ing­town East girls’ golf team de­feated Methac­ton, 171-185, Mon­day, shoot­ing the low­est team score in the his­tory of the pro­gram. East was led by Lid­die McCook (36), Anisha Sonti (43), Me­gan Ostertag (43) and Kate­lyn Sam­ples (49). McCook and Sam­ples each birdied the ninth hole, and McCook hit all nine greens in reg­u­la­tion. Even though the greens had been aer­ated Mon­day morn­ing, scores were still low.

The vic­tory, at Honey­brook Golf Club (9 holes, par 35), boosted East’s record to 3-2 (2-2 in PAC). OX­FORD 211, COATESVILLE 217 >> Chuck Sisler shot a 35 and Nick Rubbo added a 39 as the Hor­nets (2-2, 5-4) recorded the Ches-Mont vic­tory. Jake Tury led the Red Raiders with a 38.

BISHOP SHANA­HAN 205, AVON GROVE 215 >> Joe Ju­liano led with a 39 and Pat Nulty added a 40 as the Ea­gles cap­tured the Ches-Mont Na­tional vic­tory.

Matt Chalupa and Jack McCarthy shot a 41 each to pace the Red Devils (3-3, 6-4).

MALVERN PREP 237, HAVER­FORD SCHOOL 239 >> Friar sopho­more John Updike shot a siz­zling 3-un­der par score of 33 with five birdies to earn medal­ist hon­ors. Malvern ju­nior Mattt Davis chipped in with 38 and con­tin­ued his con­sis­tent play this sea­son. Friar se­nior Gavin Sims posted 40 while sopho­more An­drew Curran shot 41. Malvern is now 4-0 in non-league ac­tion.

GREAT VAL­LEY 204, KEN­NETT 219 >> Steve Borst led the way for the Pa­tri­ots with a 36, while Evan Brown paced Ken­nett with a 37 Mon­day at Harte­feld GC.

GREAT VAL­LEY (GIRLS) 181, SPRING-FORD (GIRLS) 192 >> Great Val­ley was led by Liv Juliana (39) and Amanda Heins (44) in its vic­tory Mon­day at Spring Hol­low GC.

Boys’ Soc­cer

DEVON PREP 4, DELCO CHRIS­TIAN 2 >> The Tide rolled to a vic­tory Mon­day, boosted by two goals from Nick Bello. Matt Drauschak and John Curran added goals for the win­ners.

Girls’ Soc­cer

GREAT VAL­LEY 5, BISHOP SHANA­HAN 1 >> Great Val­ley (1-3) picked up its first win of the sea­son, get­ting two goals each from Cas­sidy Hoops and Thea Howard.

WEST CH­ESTER RUSTIN 4, SUN VAL­LEY 0 >> Rustin got a hat trick from Au­drey Cof­fey and three as­sists from Anushree God­dole. With the win, Goalie Ni­cole Cousens (three saves) got the shutout. Rustin im­proves to 3-2 over- all, 2-0 league.

OC­TORARA 2, OX­FORD 0 >> Oc­tarara got goals from Kelsey Tuell and Lind­sey Topper in the vic­tory. 3-1 (2-0 league), get­ting goals from Ju­lia Wood, Olivia Parke and Cather­ine Derosa. Goalie Sara Leir­frig (three saves) recorded the shutout.

CONESTOGA 1, COUN­CIL ROCK SOUTH 0 >> The Pioneers’ goal was scored off of a cor­ner kick in the first half by Nia Scott. The as­sist was by Emily Wertz, who took the kick. This im­proves Conestoga’s record to 3-0-1 hav­ing de­feated Owen J. Roberts, Springfield (Delco), and Coun­cil Rock South, and hav­ing tied Down­ing­town West. Conestoga had an 11-4 shots-on-goal ad­van­tage. Conestoga’s keep­ers split the game with Colleen Bald­win mak­ing two saves in the first half, and Maeve Re­gan mak­ing one save in the sec­ond half.

DONWINGTOWN WEST 1, DOWN­ING­TOWN EAST 0 >> West got a sec­ond-half goal from Gina Peraino, and goalie Mor­gan O’Laughlin (two saves) recorded the shutout. For East, goalie Court­ney Dun­lop made two saves.

Girls Tennis

UNIONVILLE 4, GREAT VAL­LEY 3>> Unionville got key wins at sec­ond sin­gles (Ricki Lane) and fourth dou­bles (Maddy French and Kate Dobbins) for the 4-3 win. Great Val­ley’s Adira Nair had a wellplayed match at first sin­gles.

WEST CH­ESTER HEN­DER­SON 7, KEN­NETT 0 >> Hen­der­son swept Ken­nett, 7-0, Mon­day, win­ning all of its matches hand­ily in two sets.

COATESVILLE 6, SUN VAL­LEY 1 >> Coatesville rolled to a con­vinc­ing vic­tory against vis­it­ing Sun Va­ley Mon­day, win­ning all matches ex­cept for first sin­gles.

Vol­ley­ball

COATESVILLE 3, OX­FORD 1 >> Coatesville won by post­ing scores of 25-19, 25-22, 1925, 25-23. Ox­ford lead­ers in­cluded Made­line Wil­liams (four aces), Lo­gan Wolfe (three aces, eight Kills, four blocks) and Ju­lianna Hug­gard (five kills, three blocks). VILLA MARIA ACAD­EMY 3, GWYNEDD MERCY 1 >> The Hur­ri­canes (1-1 over­all, 1-0 AACA) picked up their first win of the sea­son, post­ing scores of 18-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-22. Villa Maria lead­ers in­cluded Shan­non Thomas (28 as­sists, 12 digs, three aces), Erin Zim­mer­man (10 kills, three blocks) and Molly Dun­fee (18 digs, three aces).

Field Hockey

WEST CH­ESTER RUSTIN 2, SUN VAL­LEY 1 >> Rustin got goals from Kather­ine Heil­man and Blaise Cu­bini in the vic­tory, and im­proved to 3-2 with the win.

BISHOP SHANA­HAN 6, BON­NER PRENDIE 2 >> Bishop Shana­han (1-2) earned its first vic­tory of the sea­son, get­ting goals from six dif­fer­ent scor­ers. Goalie Ca­ressa Gen­tile had 12 saves.

The West Ch­ester Hen­der­son dou­bles team of Mary El­iz­a­beth So­ria and Elaina Rock­ford com­petes against Ken­nett Mon­day.
