Whip­pets hold on for wild vol­ley­ball win

The Down­ing­town West vol­ley­ball team thought it had done the hard part dur­ing Fri­day’s non­league match against Spring-Ford, jump­ing out to a quick lead by win­ning the first two sets. But after drop­ping sets three and four, the Whip­pets had to scrap out a wild 16-14 win in the fifth set to beat the Rams, 25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 18-25, 16-14.

Ken­zie Pin­cura had 21 kills, 10 digs and six aces to lead the Whip­pets, while Aly Rear­don added 12 kills and five aces and Ha­ley Lewis chipped in with 10 kills and seven blocks.

Gina Schetroma had 28 digs and four aces while Lexi Bald­win had 20 as­sists, four aces and eight digs. NOTRE DAME 3, WEST CH­ESTER EAST 0 >> Ali Ward had 10 kills and Tay­lor Craw­ford had 14 as­sists in the non­league loss for the Vik­ings (4-2 over­all). VILLA MARIA 3, ST. BASIL’S 0 >> Carly Ostrowski had 13 kills and 10 digs and Shan­non Thomas added 35 as­sists as the Hur­ri­canes (3-0, 3-2) swept the AACA match, 25-7, 25-18 and 25-12. Molly Dun­fee added 12 digs and three asces while Emily Wynne had seven kills, seven digs and two aces.

UNIONVILLE 7, OCTORARA 0 >> So­phie Wilks, Ricki Lane and El­iza Wilks cruised to sin­gles vic­to­ries as the In­di­ans blanked the Braves in the Ches-Mont Amer­i­can tilt, re­main­ing perfect in the league this year (7-0). The third and fourth dou­bles matches were the most com­pet­i­tive of the day for the Braves (1-5 league), but Unionville was still able to fin­ish off the shutout win. win with­out drop­ping a set. WEST CH­ESTER HEN­DER­SON 7, BISHOP SHANA­HAN 0 >> The War­riors dropped just seven games over­all on their way to a shutout win over the Ea­gles in Ches-Mont Na­tional ac­tion. Emma Clark, Amanda Bax­ter and Han­nah Bax­ter each win sin­gles matches with­out los­ing a game. WEST CH­ESTER EAST 6, WEST CH­ESTER RUSTIN 1 >> The Vik­ings won a Ches-Mont crossover match that was closer than the fi­nal score would in­di­cate, as the No. 2 sin­gles match went three sets and No. 2 dou­bles match re­quired a split-set tiebreaker. COATESVILLE 5, OX­FORD 2 >> Jackie Dom­sohn, Sarah Kargbu and Siani Brown all posted easy sin­gles wins as the Red Raiders won the Ches-Mont crossover match.

Amanda Cooper and Rachel Shel­ley posted a win for Ox­ford at third dou­bles.

4, El­yse Burch and Ains­ley Vogt clinched the hard-fought match with a win at No. 4 dou­bles to edge the Pa­tri­ots. Adira Nair pulled out a hard-fought three-set win over Noelle Egh­bali at No. 1 sin­gles. SPRINGSIDE-CHEST­NUT HILL 2, WESTTOWN 1 >> After fall­ing be­hind early, Ab­bie Barth scored the only goal for the Moose (1-2 over­all) be­fore Springside-Chest­nut Hill went ahead for good in the non­league con­test. BISHOP SHANA­HAN 6, HAVER­FORD 4 >> Emma Velez and Paige Plevyak scored two goals each as the Ea­gles jumped out to an early lead and hung on in a non­league shootout. Alana Pap­pas had six saves for the Ea­gles (2-4 over­all).
