Mary Jane Mar­lowe (neé Or­tolan) of West Ch­ester

Mary Jane Mar­lowe (neé Or­tolan), 95, passed away on Septem­ber 21, 2016.

Born in 1921 in East Pater­son, NJ, she was the daugh­ter of the late Mario and Emma (nee Cella) Or­tolan.

Mary Jane en­listed in the United States Army in 1942. She served in the Sig­nal Corps in North Africa, Italy, France and Eng­land. While serv­ing in North Africa, she met her fu­ture hus­band James J. Mar­lowe, Sr, whom she mar­ried on Fe­bru­ary 15, 1947 af­ter her hon­or­able dis­charge in 1945, hold­ing the rank of Sergeant.

Mrs. Mar­lowe worked for Bryn Mawr Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion in an ad­min­is­tra­tive po­si­tion un­til her re­tire­ment.

She was the beloved wife of the late James J. Mar­lowe, Sr; the lov­ing mother of James J. Mar­lowe, Jr. (fi­ancé Florence D. Gra­ham) and Ter­rence J. Mar­lowe (Robin); lov­ing grand­mother to Marisa Mar­lowe, Rachel Mar­lowe and Nathaniel Mar­lowe; the dear sis­ter of Glo­ria Dron­goski; beloved aunt of Su­san Winn (James) and Su­san’s daugh­ter Sarah Del­russo, Cyn­thia Strouse (Robert) and son Ben­jamin, and of Joseph Mar­lowe, Jr. (Karen), Cather­ine Mar­lowe, Sharon Moldof (David), Christo­pher Mar­lowe, and Mar­garet Mary Lewis (Gary). She was the for­mer mother-in law of Maria Mar­lowe, a very spe­cial part of the fam­ily.

To re­flect her love of an­i­mals, in lieu of flow­ers, Mary Jane would be hon­ored to have memo­rial con­tri­bu­tions to Charm City An­i­mal Res­cue, 2514 Naves Cross Road, Cum­ber­land, MD 21502, Attn: Michelle In­grodi.

A memo­rial ser­vice and in­ter­ment will be held 12 noon Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 1, 2016 at St. Agnes Ceme­tery, 1050 Pottstown Pike, West Ch­ester, PA 19380.
