Daily Local News (West Chester, PA) - - OBITUARIES -

Patrice Varano Sminkey, 53, recently relocated to Florida, passed suddenly on September 22, 2016.

She was born in Chester, PA to the late Theodore F. Varano and Marie (McLaughlin) Varano.

Patrice was the second of eight children.

She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Jack, their two daughters, Marie and Lily, and her siblings Julia Rawlings (Michael), Joan Appel (Neil), Maria McDowell (Andrew), Ted Varano (Martha), Mary Zecca (Mark), Sean Varano (Tracy) and Rita Beck (Bill) and her in-laws Jack and Dolores Sminkey. She is also survived by 25 nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delaware, Patrice earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Chester County School of Nursing. She spent her entire career in the health care industry, taking on everincreasing leadership positions. She served as Chief Executive Officer of the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) for the last six years.

Patrice’s magnetic personality and irrepressible spirit resulted in many great friendships during her life, yet it was her family that provided her greatest joy and source of strength. One of eight children, Patrice grew up in a close-knit, loving household in Brookhaven, PA, led by her father, Ted and mother, Marie. Ted and Marie instilled a strong work ethic, family loyalty and faith in God that guided and sustained Patrice through her life.

Patrice married Jack Sminkey in 1987, and together they were raising two daughters, Marie and Lily. Patrice’s daughters were the light of her life, providing her with immeasurable pride and joy. Her selfless devotion to her girls was evident to everyone who knew her, and her unwavering love and the sacrifices she made for her family will forever be reflected in her daughters’ own lives.

Patrice’s passing leaves an irreparable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
