Paul Ryan to stump for area candidates
Speaker of the House will attend events Thursday with Republicans Ryan Costello and Lloyd Smucker
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, is scheduled to campaign with two Republican congressional candidates in southeastern Pennsylvania Thursday.
U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello, R-6, of West Goshen, will welcome Paul Ryan to JTech USA in Chester Springs, Chester County, for a media event at 9:45 a.m. to discuss Costello’s work enacting a responsible, five-year transportation funding package that provided more than $700 million for Pennsylvania roads, bridges and transportation projects. They will also discuss Paul Ryan’s leadership in charting “A Better Way” for creating American jobs and addressing some of the country’s biggest challenges, according to a news
release from Costello’s campaign. The 6th Congressional District covers parts of Chester, Montgomery, Berks and Lebanon counties. Costello is running for re-election against Democrat Mike Parrish of Willistown, Chester County.
Paul Ryan will later travel to Rheems, Lancaster County, for a news conference at Wenger
Feeds at 1:45 p.m. with state Sen. Lloyd Smucker, R-13, of Lampeter, Lancaster County, who is running to represent the 16th Congressional District, which includes portions of Lancaster, Chester and Berks counties.
Smucker supports Ryan’s “A Better Way” plan to make the nation a better place for all of citizens today and in the future, according to a news release from his campaign. Smucker is running for Congress to make certain
that anybody who works hard and plays by the rules can achieve the American Dream. In the state Senate, Smucker’s biggest priorities during this term have focused on supporting measures that provide a world-class education to all Pennsylvanians, helping to develop a more equitable education funding structure and pushing for reforms to reduce the size of the legislature. He also has advocated for a legislative gift ban and measures to increase openness and
transparency, according to the news release. Two other candidates are on the ballot for the 16th District seat: Democrat Christina Hartman of the city of Lancaster, and Libertarian Shawn Patrick House of Columbia, Lancaster County.
