School-wide service project helps kids in need
Over the summer St. Mary’s Parish collected thousands of gently-used books and hosted a book exchange for the students. When school opened in September the teachers choose books for the students in their classes. With hundreds of books still remaining the school, along with students and their parents, hosted a free Book Give Away for the surrounding communities. There was no limit to how many books the children could take.
After giving away hundreds of books to the surrounding community there were still enough books left to reach out to those children in a different and diverse learning environment. The wide variety of books, 11 very large boxes, were sent to Rice Elementary School on an Indian Reservation in San Carlos, Arizona.
First grade class at Rice Elementary School in San Carlos, Arizona are shown with the donated books.
