The Garden Class of the Woman’s Community Club of Uwchlan installed Friday a Blue Star Memorial ByWay Marker on the grounds of the historic 1756 Uwchlan Meeting House with the help of veterans and Downingtown students.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 845 of Downingtown, along with the Chester County Marine Corps League Detachment 286 and students from the “Patriots’ Club” at the Lionville Middle School, participated in the dedication. The plaque attached to a boulder at the Meeting House was unveiled by the students. The memorial honors past and present members of the U.S. Armed Services.

The memorial markers are an ongoing project of National Garden Clubs, Inc. The Garden Class of the Woman’s Garden Club of Uwchlan sponsored this memorial plaque to honor the soldiers who were a part of the history of the building that the club members meet in and maintain.

The Uwchlan Meeting House is at 5 North Village Ave. on Route 113. The Meeting House served as a hospital for the wounded during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars; therefore, organizers said it was a fitting place to install the marker there.
