Marolyn Elaine Johnson Hughes of West Chester
Marolyn Elaine Johnson Hughes, 91, passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Hughes was born on September 12, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the eldest of three children born to Mary Hudson and Lewis Chester Johnson.
Mrs. Hughes graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls, an institution for the academically gifted. She attended Bryn Mawr College and the University of Pennsylvania where she pursued her passion for chemistry.
In 1946, Marolyn Johnson married James J. Hughes Jr. and they were blessed with seven children.
A long-time resident of Chester County, Mrs. Hughes was also a second mother to many and will be remembered for her spirituality, kindness, curiosity, voracious appetite for current affairs, avid reading, and appreciation of the beauty that surrounded her. She will be sadly missed by family and friends who loved her dearly.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James J. Hughes, Jr.; her son, Bobby; her sister, Nancy; and her brother, Robert.
She will be mourned by her by 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and most deeply by her six children: Michael of Lake Ridge, VA; Patricia AvéLallemant of Savannah, GA; James (Alice King) of Charleston, SC; Kathleen (Charles Hammond) of West Chester, PA; Teresa H. Hurst of Exton, PA; and Thomas (Mary Beth) of Tampa, FL.
Mass of the Christian Burial will take place at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 233 W. Gay Street, West Chester, PA, on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may visit from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be private.
