Jack Roger “Cap­tain Jack” Byrd, Sr., 66, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 6th, 2016, sur­rounded by his fam­ily. He was the beloved hus­band of Mary Jo (Be­g­ley) Byrd, with whom he shared 20 won­der­ful years of mar­riage.

Born in Philadel­phia, Jack was the son of the late Ann (Ku­bik) and Jack Ardel Byrd. He was a 1968 grad­u­ate of Bar­tram High School and he grad­u­ated from Smith and Solomon Driv­ing School. Jack most re­cently worked at Jour­nal Register Off­set as a CDL driver. He had pre­vi­ously de­liv­ered for Fed­eral Pret­zel Bak­ing Com­pany in Philadel­phia and had owned and op­er­ated Pine For­rest Ken­nels with his son, where he bred Ger­man Shep­herds and Rot­tweil­ers, sell­ing them to the po­lice and mil­i­tary.

Jack was a de­voted fam­ily man, an ex­tremely hard worker, an avid sports fan and an an­i­mal rights ac­tivist. He was proud of his Chero­kee her­itage.

Jack is sur­vived, in ad­di­tion to his wife, by four chil­dren: Jack Byrd Jr., hus­band of Jen­nifer, of As­ton, Pa., Kim­berly MacName, wife of Danny, of Le­ola, Va­lerie Glass, wife of Michael, of Ox­ford, and Cauleen Mar­shall, wife of Scott, Sr., sta­tioned in Fort Hood, TX; nine grand­chil­dren, Sherry, Amanda, Tracy, Hunter, Scotty, Jr., Lu­cus, So­phie, Liam, De­sirae; two great grand­chil­dren, Dani Lynn and David; and sib­lings, Sharon, Judy, Den­nis, Deb­bie, Ger­ald. He was pre­de­ceased by his sis­ter, Con­nie Byrd.

Fam­ily and friends are in­vited to at­tend the view­ing from 1 un­til 2 PM on Satur­day, October 15, 2016 at Wilde Fu­neral Home, 434 Main St., Parkes­burg, PA.
