County hous­ing mar­ket drops

The hous­ing mar­ket in Ch­ester County cooled a bit in Septem­ber, ac­cord­ing fig­ures for the month in the Berk­shire Hath­away HomeSer­vices Fox & Roach Mar­ket Re­port.

In Septem­ber, 624 prop­er­ties sold in the county, down 1.7 per­cent from the 635 sold in Septem­ber 2015. The me­dian price of prop­er­ties sold de­clined al­most 5 per­cent, from $310,000 in Septem­ber 2015 to $295,000 this year. Prop­er­ties took 65 days to sell com­pared to 62 days in Septem­ber 2015.

Ch­ester County was the only county in the five-county Philadel­phia area to re­port de­clines in the num­ber of prop­er­ties sold and the num­ber sold.

In the five-county area – Ch­ester, Bucks, Delaware, Mont­gomery and Philadel­phia – 4,225 houses sold, up 5.6 per­cent from the 4,001 prop­er­ties sold in Septem­ber 2015. Me­dian prices in the re­gion rose to $235,000 from $230,000, the re­port found.
