Police: Grenade discovery is non-criminal
NORTH COVENTRY >> Police have classified an incident Wednesday involving the discovery of hands grenades as non-criminal.
According to a post on North Coventry Police’s website, officers were called to a home on the 200 block of South Hanover Street at approximately 4:26 p.m. for the report of suspicious items located inside. Earlier reports indicated that members of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Bomb and Hazardous Device Unit were called to the home to remove two hand grenades found in the basement.
Police elaborated in their post later that day, stating that officers were advised that the home had just been purchased and the new owner had found a small room off the basement that contained items that concerned the homeowner. Once inside the room, officers observed two grenades and drug paraphernalia. The residence was evacuated and the Montgomery County Sheriffs Bomb Disposal Unit was then called to investigate.
The bomb unit was able to confirm that the grenades were no longer live, and the team removed them from the home.
Homeowners were allowed back into their home without incident after more than an hour.
