Fire destroys barn, injures firefighter
One firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained while battling a fire that destroyed a township barn Friday evening.
Fire departments were called to a barn fire on Weisstown Road at around 8:30 p.m. Friday night. Upon arrival, Eastern Berks Fire Chief Mike Mutter confirmed a working fire with no immediate exposures. A second alarm was then initiated.
Eastern Berks Fire Department arrived on the scene and began to douse the fire. Crews from other stations soon arrived to provide support and most of the blaze had been knocked down.
The barn and a classic car inside were completely destroyed, fire officials said.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Crews did not completely clear the scene until around 11 p.m.
Fire officials have not yet determined a cause of the fire.
Assisting on the scene were Eastern Berks, Boyertown, Earl Township, Hereford, Pennsburg, Gilbertsville and New Hanover Fire Departments, as well as EMS units from Bally and Boyertown.
