Pedes­trian killed on Route 422

A pedes­trian was killed early Satur­day morn­ing af­ter be­ing struck by a ve­hi­cle, au­thor­i­ties con­firmed.

Joseph J. McCloskey III, 46, a res­i­dent of the Rain­bow Motel in Dou­glassville, was struck and killed just be­fore 2:30 a.m. along the west­bound lanes of Route 422, ac­cord­ing to the Berks County Coro­ner’s Of­fice. He was pro­nounced dead at the scene shortly be­fore 4 a.m.

There is still no de­ter­mi­na­tion into the cause or man­ner of death. The of­fice is not sure if an au­topsy will be per­formed. The driver of the ve­hi­cle did stop and was the first per­son to call 911, ac­cord­ing to the coro­ner’s of­fice. Po­lice con­tinue to in­ves­ti­gate.

The west­bound lanes were shut down for a few hours as au­thor­i­ties con­tin­ued to in­ves­ti­gate, ac­cord­ing to a me­dia re­port.
