Patriots rally to post district win
Great Valley rallied after losing the first set to beat No. 24 Central Bucks West, 3-1, in the first round of the District 1 4A volleyball tournament Tuesday.
The ninth-seeded Patriots (14-4) won by scores of 23-25, 26-24, 25-14, 25-22.
Great Valley received strong play from Aimee Christen, Abby Daniels, Mackenzie Farrelly and Danielle DiSciullo.
The Patriots will face No. 8 Hatboro-Horsham in the second round Thursday.
DOWNINGTOWN EAST 4, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 >> Olivia Lawton scored twice as the Cougars rolled to a firstround victory in the Dis- trict 1 playoffs. Emma Steigerwald and Brenna Warren had a goal and an assist each. Downingtown East, the 11th seed, will travel to No. 6 Strath Haven in the second round Thursday.
MALVERN PREP 1, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 0 >> Cullen Pina scored the game’s lone goal with two mintes left in the first half to lead the Friars to the Inter-Ac shutout.
MALVERN PREP 14, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 6 >> Isaac Salinas scored six, and had five steals and five drawn ejections as the Friars (5-1, 16-4) cruised to the Inter-Ac win. Seamus Glynn added four goals and two steals and Steve Salle nothed a pair of goals and blocked four shots. Zach Maher and Andrew Knaus had single tallies. Griff Delaney was made 15 saves in goal.
College Men’s Golf
ALVERNIA INVITATIONAL>> Immaculata’s men’s golf team tied for sixth place at the Alvernia Invitational with a team score of 337. Patrick Zeoli had the lowest round of his fall season Tuesday with an 80, placing him tied for 10th overall. Anthony Spatacco was one shot back with an 81 for 12th place. Jay Spatacco carded an 87 in a tie for 28th place, and Stephen McEntee signed his scorecard of 89 in a tie for 33rd. Cabrini won the event with a team composite of 324, while Thomas Moran of Lebanon Valley was the individual winner with a round of 76.
