Hurricanes blow past Springfield
Mary Harkins and Annina Iacobucci had three goals each as top-seeded Villa Maria trounced Springfield (Delco), 14-0, in the second round of the District 1 Class AA field hockey playoffs Wednesday.
The Hurricanes (16-1) will host eighth-seeded Radnor in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Hannah Miller, Emily Doyle and Ryan Doran had two goals each.
Lindsay Dickinson and Adrianna Yacobelli had single tallies. Whippets with a 96. Shae Cabaddu followed with a 98, Lily Byrne had a 100, Shannon Hale 106 and Caitlin McGrinder carded a 107.

LINCOLN 4, TRINITY 0 >> Senior Tamara Greene recorded her first career hat trick as the Lions (3-10) cruised to the non-conference victory. Greene notched Lincoln’s first three goals of the game and Averri Glenn added a score late in the second half. Goalie Lena Rodriguez had 4 saves.
IMMACULATA 3, CAIRN 0 >> Immaculata men’s soccer took one step closer to clinching a home game in the upcoming Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 win at Cairn. Immaculata improves to 11-5-1 overall and 6-2 in conference play. It sets a program record for wins in a single season, topping the 10-win seasons by the 2008 and 2009 Mighty Mac squads. The six wins tie the Immaculata mark for most wins in conference game, equaling those of last year’s squad and those of 2008 and 2009. Nick Boule started the scoring for Immaculata in the seventh minute when he finished the pass from Alex Noel for the early 1-0 lead. The Mighty Macs would hold that same advantage at the break.
IMMACULATA 3, CENTENARY 0>> Immaculata volleyball punched its ticket to its third-straight CSAC postseason Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep on the road at Centenary. The Mighty Macs took the match with scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 2515. Immaculata improved to 9-14 overall and 6-4 in the CSAC. Gabrielle Guerrera had a team-leading 13 kills while adding three service aces and six digs. Arden Vizzard had a doubledouble with 11 kills and 12 digs, and also had three aces. Shelby Belk rounded out a trio of Mighty Macs with double-digit kills with 10, and she had a team-best four aces and two blocks. Olivia Zdradzinski handed out 14 assists while adding three kills and eight digs. Madi Curley finished with 13 assists and six digs. Molly Truitt made 11 digs, five assists and three service aces.
WEST CHESTER 3, MILLERSVILLE 2, OT >> Senior back Nikki Bennett scored her first college goal, 51 seconds into overtime as the ninth-ranked Golden Rams (7-2, 11-6) posted the upset over No. 4 Millersville (64, 13-4). Bennett tipped a blast from Dayle Paustian into the cage off a penalty corner. The Golden Rams knotted things up late in the second half, sending the game into overtime when freshman back Maya Gulliksen sent a long ball up to Marnie Kusakavitch, who broke in alone down the right side. Kusakavitch beat Millersville goalkeeper Samantha Rumler short side in the 57th minute, evening the score at 2-2.
WCBL LOOKING FOR FOR TEAMS >> The West Chester Baseball League is looking to expand and is accepting applications for new teams for the 2017 season. The league is a competitive wood bat, hardball league for adults, aged 17 and above, featuring a 30-game schedule with all games played at Hoopes Park in West Chester. Scheduling ranges from early May to early/mid August (weather dependent). The league features players from the high school, collegiate (all divisions) and (former) professional ranks and has been in existence since 1956.
