Harold E. ‘Brownie’ McCarter of West Ch­ester

Harold E. “Brownie” McCarter, 91, of West Ch­ester, died on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 30, 2016.

He was the hus­band of the late Eleanor D. Vill­brandt McCarter who died in 2008. They shared 64 years of mar­riage to­gether.

Born in High­land Town­ship, Ch­ester County, he was the son of the late Wil­liam and Vi­ola Jami­son McCarter.

Harold was an area res­i­dent all his life and a 1943 grad­u­ate of the for­mer Scott High School in Coatesville. He proudly served in the US Army dur­ing WWII with the 513th Parachute In­fantry Reg­i­ment and was wounded and cap­tured in com­bat dur­ing the Bat­tle of The Bulge. He was awarded the Com­bat In­fantry Badge, the Pur­ple Heart Medal and the POW Medal.

He was em­ployed by Pep­peridge Farms re­tir­ing as pro­duc­tion su­per­vi­sor. Brownie was a mem­ber of the Olivet United Methodist Church of Coatesville, the Kennett Square Amer­i­can Le­gion, the Down­ing­town VFW, the West End Fire Co. and the Brandy­wine Chap­ter of Ex-POWs.

He is sur­vived by six chil­dren; Deb­o­rah McCarter of West Ch­ester, Harold W. McCarter of West Ch­ester, Jac­que­line McCarter of West Grove, Jan­ice Ficca (Hugo) of Seaford, DE, Eleanor Cleven­s­tine (J. Shaff) of Birds­boro and Karen McCarter of Li­titz; 15 grand­chil­dren, 20 great grand­chil­dren and one great grand­child on the way. He was pre­ceded in death by all his sib­lings.

Funeral ser­vices will be held on Fri­day, Novem­ber 4, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkes­burg, PA fol­lowed by in­ter­ment in the Friend­ship Methodist Ceme­tery. View­ing from 9:00 am to the time of the ser­vice.

In lieu of flow­ers, memo­rial do­na­tions may be sent in his mem­ory to the Neigh­bor­hood Hos­pice, 400 East Mar­shall Street, West Ch­ester, PA 19380.
