El­e­men­tary stu­dents feed the hun­gry

East Goshen El­e­men­tary School stu­dents pre­pared meals for hun­gry peo­ple in Ch­ester County.

In an ef­fort to help bat­tle hunger, stu­dents at East Goshen El­e­men­tary School worked to­gether to pre­pare meals that will feed hun­dreds of peo­ple in Ch­ester County. Dur­ing the school’s an­nual one-day event called “Feed the Hun­gry,” stu­dents in kinder­garten through fifth grade learn about hunger is­sues in the county, then help put to­gether nearly 1,000 break­fast bags and pre­pare 80 trays of baked ziti. In ad­di­tion to mak­ing mone­tary do­na­tions to­wards the ef­fort, East Goshen El­e­men­tary par­ents do­nate all of the food and the items used to pre­pare the meals. Through a grant from Davita Dial­y­sis, the school was able to dou­ble the num­ber of break­fast bags they orig­i­nally planned to pre­pare. “I liked help­ing our com­mu­nity and giv­ing food to peo­ple that are hun­gry,” said sec­ond-grader Han­nah Diem about her ex­pe­ri­ence par­tic­i­pat­ing in the event. Now in its 13th year, “Feed the Hun­gry” is a school­wide com­mu­nity ser­vice tra­di­tion and the ef­fort ben­e­fits mul­ti­ple or­ga­ni­za­tions across Ch­ester County.
