Elementary students feed the hungry
East Goshen Elementary School students prepared meals for hungry people in Chester County.
In an effort to help battle hunger, students at East Goshen Elementary School worked together to prepare meals that will feed hundreds of people in Chester County. During the school’s annual one-day event called “Feed the Hungry,” students in kindergarten through fifth grade learn about hunger issues in the county, then help put together nearly 1,000 breakfast bags and prepare 80 trays of baked ziti. In addition to making monetary donations towards the effort, East Goshen Elementary parents donate all of the food and the items used to prepare the meals. Through a grant from Davita Dialysis, the school was able to double the number of breakfast bags they originally planned to prepare. “I liked helping our community and giving food to people that are hungry,” said second-grader Hannah Diem about her experience participating in the event. Now in its 13th year, “Feed the Hungry” is a schoolwide community service tradition and the effort benefits multiple organizations across Chester County.
