Gi­ant do­nates money and turkeys to shel­ter

Gi­ant Food Stores’ “Feed­ing Our Neigh­bors Ev­ery­day” hol­i­day cam­paign re­cently sup­ported Phi­l­abun­dance’s an­nual turkey drive with 1,000 turkeys and $5,000.

“Our an­nual Feed­ing Our Neigh­bors Ev­ery­day cam­paign brings help where our com­mu­ni­ties need it most - to our lo­cal food banks,” said Tom Lenke­vich, Gi­ant pres­i­dent. “Both the turkeys and funds will help Phi­l­abun­dance en­sure vul­ner­a­ble fam­i­lies can en­joy a tra­di­tional meal this Thanks­giv­ing.”

Ac­cord­ing to Phi­l­abun­dance, the do­na­tion of 1,000 turkeys can help feed nearly 8,000 peo­ple.

“Phi­l­abun­dance is so grate­ful to Gi­ant for its sup­port year af­ter year in help­ing us achieve our mis­sion of driv­ing hunger from our com­mu­ni­ties to­day and end­ing hunger for­ever,” said Phi­l­abun­dance Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor Glenn Bergman. “Thanks to them, many fam­i­lies across the Delaware Val­ley – from Haver­town to Had­don­field and ev­ery­where in be­tween – will have a hap­pier Thanks­giv­ing with a nu­tri­tious and de­li­cious GI­ANT brand turkey on their ta­ble.”

Ear­lier this year, Phi­l­abun­dance also re­ceived a $195,000 grant from Our Family Foun­da­tion by Gi­ant as part of the gro­cer’s new Fight­ing Child Hunger ini­tia­tive to increase ac­cess to healthy, nu­tri­tious food for chil­dren in need of health­ier di­ets. As a re­sult of the grant, the food bank was able to ex­pand its Kids Bites’ Lunch Box pro­gram in Penn­syl­va­nia and New Jersey.
