Longwood Fire Co. visits 9 local schools
Members of the Longwood Fire Company visited nine area schools as part of the organization’s Fire Prevention Month activities.
“Our volunteers reached out to 825 students,” said Fire Chief A. J. McCarthy. “The vital information our members gave the students will be valuable in the years to come. Fire prevention is a yearround effort.”
Longwood volunteers spent four days visiting the schools. The schools were Hillendale Elementary, Crosslands Day Care, Chadds Ford Elementary, Fairville Friends, Dunklings Longwood, Westtown Academy-Chadds Ford, Pocopson Elementary, Westtown Academy – Willowdale and Greenwood Elementary.
October was Fire Prevention Month. The Chester County Commissioners issued a proclamation and noted eight people died in fires in Chester County in the past year and $36 million worth of property was destroyed.
Longwood Fire Company has served the communities of Kennett, East Marlborough, Pennsbury and Pocopson townships since 1921. Longwood Fire Company provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
