Long­wood Fire Co. vis­its 9 lo­cal schools

Mem­bers of the Long­wood Fire Com­pany vis­ited nine area schools as part of the or­ga­ni­za­tion’s Fire Pre­ven­tion Month ac­tiv­i­ties.

“Our vol­un­teers reached out to 825 stu­dents,” said Fire Chief A. J. McCarthy. “The vi­tal in­for­ma­tion our mem­bers gave the stu­dents will be valu­able in the years to come. Fire pre­ven­tion is a year­round ef­fort.”

Long­wood vol­un­teers spent four days vis­it­ing the schools. The schools were Hil­len­dale Ele­men­tary, Cross­lands Day Care, Chadds Ford Ele­men­tary, Fairville Friends, Dun­klings Long­wood, West­town Acad­emy-Chadds Ford, Po­cop­son Ele­men­tary, West­town Acad­emy – Wil­low­dale and Green­wood Ele­men­tary.

Oc­to­ber was Fire Pre­ven­tion Month. The Ch­ester County Com­mis­sion­ers is­sued a procla­ma­tion and noted eight peo­ple died in fires in Ch­ester County in the past year and $36 mil­lion worth of prop­erty was de­stroyed.

Long­wood Fire Com­pany has served the com­mu­ni­ties of Ken­nett, East Marl­bor­ough, Penns­bury and Po­cop­son town­ships since 1921. Long­wood Fire Com­pany pro­vides fire, res­cue and emer­gency med­i­cal ser­vices 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
