Teacher’s aide charged with sex crimes
Sheri Maufort charged with institutional sexual assault, corruption of minors, and related charges
EAST MARLBOROUGH>> A substitute teacher’s aide was charged with institutional sexual assault, corruption of minors, and related charges after allegedly engaging in sexual activities with two Unionville High School students.
According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, Sheri Maufort allegedly kissed and performed oral sex on one male student under the age of 18 in a field near a restaurant in Birmingham after giving him alcohol.
About three weeks later, she allegedly touched a second victim’s penis after she picked him up at party shortly following a high school football game, according to authorities.
Maufort, a 42-year-old married West Chester resident, had both students in a class where she worked as a substitute teacher’s aide.
According to the affidavit released by the district attorney’s office, she contacted the first victim by text message in the evening of Aug. 20, stating she wanted to hang out with him.
Maufort reportedly picked the victim up outside his home, gave him alcohol, and took him to the restaurant in Birmingham before venturing into the nearby field to perform the alleged sexual act, authorities said.
The affidavit states Maufort continued to perform oral sex until the first victim asked her to stop, worried that someone might see them. At this time, Maufort’s husband showed up to the restaurant.
She reportedly told the first vic-
tim not to tell anyone what had occurred and to get in touch when he turned 18. According to the district attorney’s statement, Maufort’s husband drove the first victim home after showing up to the restaurant.
The second victim, who reportedly was 18 at the time of the incident but still a student, ran into Maufort at the party. Maufort allegedly drove the male victim out of the neighborhood, parked the car, kissed him, and touched his penis before taking him back to the party, according to authorities.
According to the district attorney’s news release, the alleged incidents occurred in August and September of 2016, and were reported to the authorities on Nov. 11.
Pennsylvania State Police investigated this incident with the assistance of Chester County Detectives. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Trooper Jason Pennington at 610268-2022.
In his news release, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan reiterated his first rule for school staff.
“I have said it before and I will say it again,” Hogan said. “Rule No. 1 for school staff is: ‘do not have sexual contact with a student.’ If you break this rule, you will be fired, sent to jail, and never work in a school again.”
Also in the district attorney’s news release, Unionville-Chadds Ford Superintendent John Sanville wrote that the school district will not tolerate this kind of behavior, and that the incident was immediately reported to law enforcement.

“We now will begin the difficult task of addressing this incident with our students, parents, and teachers,” Sanville wrote.
