Community invited to Lucia Festival Dec. 4
This year’s annual Lucia Festival will be celebrated at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 203 N. Valley Forge Rd. in Devon, Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. during the church service. This Swedish tradition has taken place for over 30 years at St. Luke Church. The Lucia for this year is Natalie Moir of Berwyn, a long-time member of St. Luke Church. She is a senior at Conestoga High School and has been active in the church youth group, bells choir, and other volunteer activities at church.
Santa Lucia is an early Christian martyr who is remembered each year in Sweden because of her kind acts to those in need. The women of St. Luke church started the celebration over 30 years because of the strong Swedish heritage of many members at the church. It has become one of the favorite Fine Arts programs sponsored by St. Luke church, with Swedish songs, music, and food. Lucia comes, with candles in her hair, to light the way during this dark time of the year. With this festival of candles, the captivating story of Lucia is retold every year so we remember her good deeds.
The community is welcome to join in the celebration of light and hope.
