Laura P. (Mascherino) Reut­ter, of Down­ing­town, passed away peace­fully on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 24, 2016 at the age of 97.

She was the beloved wife of the late Henry A. Reut­ter, with whom she shared over 40 years of mar­riage.

Laura was born and raised in Down­ing­town, where she was a life long res­i­dent. She was the daugh­ter of the late Alphonzo and Maria Felice Nonni Mascherino.

She at­tended Down­ing­town High School where she ex­celled in many sports, in­clud­ing field hockey, but had a love for Women’s Bas­ket­ball.

Laura was an avid cook and was fea­tured in the Daily Lo­cal News for her award win­ning pies and old world Ital­ian recipes.

Prior to her “re­tire­ment”, Laura held many po­si­tions with the de­sire to serve others utiliz­ing her culi­nary skills. She was the head baker at Lionville Mid­dle School, where she was af­fec­tion­ately known as “Grandma”. She was also the head chef for St. An­thony’s Lodge & Restau­rant in Down­ing­town for many years. She started her ca­reer dur­ing her early years as a wait­ress for the Down­ing­town Tea Room.

In 1965, she be­gan vol­un­teer­ing as a wait­ress for the an­nual Am­phibi­ous Or­der of Frogs, oth­er­wise known as “The Frog Leg Party”. Mak­ing her way up to head cook and kitchen staff man­ager, she pre­pared frog legs up un­til 2009 at the age 90.

Laura was a life­long mem­ber of St. Joseph’s Church in Down­ing­town and of­ten pre­pared au­then­tic Ital­ian meals for the Pri­ests at the rec­tory. She was also a mem­ber of the St. Joseph’s Prime-Timers, St. An­thony’s Lodge Ladies Aux­il­iary, and at­tended the Down­ing­town Se­nior Cen­ter.

Laura is sur­vived by her son, Henry (Buster) Reut­ter (Kath­leen), two daugh­ters, Bev­erly (Tippy) Gomez (Dave), Maryann (Min­nie) Travaglini (Fred), five grand­daugh­ters, Donna Car­roll, Deb­o­rah Pierce, Me­gan Gor­don, Anna Marie Travaglini, Mandy Reut­ter, four grand­sons, Ken Na­paver, Michael Gomez, Craig Travaglini and Joseph Reut­ter, twelve great-grand­chil­dren, four great-great­grand­chil­dren and nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews.

She was pre-de­ceased by one daugh­ter, Rose Marie, two sons, John and Joseph Reut­ter as well as three broth­ers and three sis­ters, Do­minick (Daddy) Mascherino, John (Toppy) & Louis Mascherino, as well as Theresa Bo­gush , An­toinette Mor­ris of and Frances Ale­siani.

A memo­rial mass will be held at 11am on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 30th at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Ave., Down­ing­town.
