Betty Thomp­son Norman of Li­titz

Betty Thomp­son Norman died on Novem­ber 20, 2016 at Mo­ra­vian Manor, Li­titz, PA, in the arms of her daugh­ter, af­ter a long af­flic­tion with Alzheimer’s dis­ease. She was 90 years old. Betty was born in New Bern, NC to Dorothy and Wil­liam H. Thomp­son, lived in Roper, NC and Lynch­burg, VA with her beloved fam­ily in­clud­ing her late sis­ter, Dorothy Jane Rea. She grad­u­ated from Ran­dolph Ma­con Col­lege, Lynch­burg, VA. She lived most of her adult life in Penn­syl­va­nia af­ter meet­ing her late hus­band on a date in her home­town.

Betty was an ac­tive mem­ber of the Epis­co­palian church, serv­ing as the Planned Giv­ing Of­fi­cer for the Dio­cese of Cen­tral Penn­syl­va­nia. She also wore nu­mer­ous other hats in her life­time from home­maker to phys­i­cal ther­apy aid at both Ch­ester County and Paoli Hos­pi­tals, tax pre­parer, seam­stress sell­ing her cre­ations to chil­dren’s bou­tiques, driver/es­cort for the el­derly, fundraiser, tour guide, and most of all a plan­ner.

Betty also en­joyed counted cross stich needle­point, va­ca­tion­ing at the fam­ily cabin in Pine Grove Fur­nace State Park, PA and Nags Head, NC where her south­ern and north­ern fam­ily would unite each sum­mer. She is best known for her plan­ning and lead­ing tours of Switzer­land for many small groups. Dur­ing her life­time she trav­eled to Switzer­land more than 50 times. Betty was known for her cre­ativ­ity and re­source­ful­ness. One of her more mem­o­rable feats was her 3 week es­cape from as­sisted liv­ing to Switzer­land at age 82.

Betty was the widow of Rev. John R. Norman, Jr. and is sur­vived by her son Paul Norman; daugh­ter Joan Norman Vo­gel; and three grand­chil­dren: David Norman, Alexan­der Norman, and Emily Vo­gel. She also has four neph­ews and three nieces.

Her fam­ily and friends will be cel­e­brat­ing her life on De­cem­ber 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Epis­co­pal Church, 1105 E. Lin­coln Hwy, Ex­ton, PA.
