Teacher who had sex with student headed back to jail after violating parole
NORRISTOWN >> A former Norristown middle school teacher is heading back to jail after admitting to violating her parole after a conviction for involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a student.
Jessica Streeper, 36, of Buckingham Township, Bucks County, appeared Tuesday in front of Judge Garrett D. Page after pleading guilty in Bucks County Court Monday to failing to properly register as a sex offender. Streeper was sentenced to complete the full length of her sentence, but will be eligible for parole after six months and 15 days. She will be on probation for five years once completing her jail sentence.
Streeper told the judge that she was unsure of what she was doing when she attempted to register with state police.
“I really just want to redeem myself, my life, for my family and my kids,” she told the judge.
Streeper was sentenced in August 2015 to nine to 23 months in jail after pleading guilty to the felony charge in connections to her sexual contact with the teenage boy between April and May 2014, while she was a math teacher at Eisenhower Middle School in Norristown.
As part of her sentence, Streeper, who is no longer teaching, will have to report her address to state police for the rest of her life under the state’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act. However, the Pennsylvania Sexual Offender Assessment Board determined Streeper did not meet criteria to be classified as a sexually violent predator, which would have required community notification about her address. She was also banned from using social media.
“It is also my understanding that she was not permitted to be on social media and it is my understanding that she had a Facebook account and that was one of the aspects of her violation,” Assistant District Attorney
Sophia Polites said.
The judge emphasized that Streeper is not allowed on any social networking sites after prosecutors found she had a Facebook account.
“I gave you a break at that time. I could have given you worse jail time,” Page said of his original sentence of nine to 23 months. “If you come back here on social media or on some other violation, I won’t play games.”
An investigation began May 19, 2014, when a Norristown detective received an anonymous phone call who said there was an eighthgrade teacher at Eisenhower Middle School who allegedly was having sex with one of her students.
The victim gave a statement to police on May 20. He said Streeper was his math teacher at the school and that he and Streeper had sex several times in her car in Norristown and a few times at her home, according to the criminal complaint.
Polites requested that Streeper still be required to complete the 100 hours of community service she was ordered to complete at sentencing, and the judge stressed that the 90 remaining hours are still mandatory.
“She is going to have some responsibility going forward with whatever future violations there possibly are. At this point, we want to look forward and make sure she complies with everything that probation is requiring of her,” Polites said.
Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy teacher Jessica Streeper leaves Magisterial District Judge Francis Lawrence’s court in Norristown June 3, 2014, after waiving her preliminary hearing on charges of having sexual contact with a student.
