Car in fa­tal hit-run ac­ci­dent re­cov­ered in Chester County

A 24-yearold man is in cus­tody in the hit-run death of an 8-yearold walk­ing from school the week be­fore Thanks­giv­ing.

No charges have yet been filed.

The sus­pected hitrun ve­hi­cle, a white Nis­san Al­tima, was re­cov­ered Wed­nes­day at an auto body shop in Frazer, Chester County.

Jayanna Pow­ell, 8, was struck in the Over­brook section of Philadel­phia back on Nov. 18 as she walked home from nearby Lewis C. Cas­sidy Ele­men­tary School with her sib­lings. The strik­ing car sped off, ac­cord­ing to wit­nesses.

Pow­ell was rushed from the scene at 63rd and Lans­downe Av­enue to Chil­dren’s Hospi­tal of Philadel­phia, where she was pro­nounced dead.

A $45,000 re­ward for in­for­ma­tion was posted ear­lier this week as her par­ents made a pub­lic ap­peal for the driver to turn him­self in.

The iden­tity of the per­son in cus­tody has not yet been re­leased.
