Car in fatal hit-run accident recovered in Chester County
A 24-yearold man is in custody in the hit-run death of an 8-yearold walking from school the week before Thanksgiving.
No charges have yet been filed.
The suspected hitrun vehicle, a white Nissan Altima, was recovered Wednesday at an auto body shop in Frazer, Chester County.
Jayanna Powell, 8, was struck in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia back on Nov. 18 as she walked home from nearby Lewis C. Cassidy Elementary School with her siblings. The striking car sped off, according to witnesses.
Powell was rushed from the scene at 63rd and Lansdowne Avenue to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was pronounced dead.
A $45,000 reward for information was posted earlier this week as her parents made a public appeal for the driver to turn himself in.
The identity of the person in custody has not yet been released.
