SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN
West Chester Christmas Parade set to take place tonight
Silent night? Not in West Chester tonight, since the annual Christmas Parade is set to take place in the borough.
Sidewalks and streets are always packed every year as people gather to watch one of the borough’s signature events take place.
This year, starting at 7:15 p.m. at New and Market streets, the 37th annual West Chester Christmas Parade will attract over 40,000 spectators to the borough and about 100 million nationwide by television.
“The parade means so much for the people of West Chester,” said Mark Yoder, president of the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce. “It’s our community’s parade.”
Yoder said this year the parade is bigger than it’s been before, with about 5,000 parade participants, and he advised spectators get to the parade site early in order to find parking.
Five cold air balloons, several dance troupes, antique cars, and community floats and vehicles will make their way through town.
“The West Chester Christmas Parade is a wonderful way to bring our local community together to connect in the spirit of the holidays,” wrote QVC spokeswoman Colleen Rooney.

This year, QVC is the title sponsor for the parade.
Last year, some of the bands that participated in the parade were West Chester Henderson, West Chester Rustin, West Chester East, Avon Grove, Downingtown, Bishop Shanahan and Owen J. Roberts.
Before the parade begins, the eighth annual Jingle Elf Run will start on Market Street between High and Walnut streets and includes a children’s race, a 2-mile run, and a 1-mile walk, with cash prizes awarded to the top finishers in the 2-mile race, and a cash prize for the best dressed elf.
“In addition to QVC, we’d like to thank all of our sponsors for this event,” Yoder said.
Highlights of the parade will be broadcasted during QVC’s holiday programming, Dec. 24 through Dec. 26.
