Pedes­trian bridge on Route 82 closed in­def­i­nitely

KEN­NETT SQUARE >> The sidewalk on the bridge car­ry­ing Route 82 (Union Street) over East Penn Rail­road in Ken­nett Square Bor­ough is closed in­def­i­nitely due to con­crete de­te­ri­o­ra­tion to the sidewalk, the Penn­syl­va­nia Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion (Pen­nDOT) an­nounced. The bridge will re­main open to traf­fic.

Dur­ing the clo­sure, pedes­tri­ans will be di­rected to use Cen­ter Street or Broad Street to cross the rail­road tracks. The sidewalk will re­main closed un­til Pen­nDOT bridge en­gi­neers can ex­am­ine the de­te­ri­o­ra­tion and de­velop a plan to re­ha­bil­i­tate or re­place the sidewalk.

The sin­gle-span steel girder bridge was orig­i­nally built in 1932 and re­con­structed in 1982. The struc­ture, cur­rently listed in fair con­di­tion, is 64 feet long, 25 feet wide and car­ries an aver­age of 8,702 ve­hi­cles a day.
